World Handicapping System – Update

16th November 2020

WHS – Green Tees

After reconsidering the treatment of the Green Tees for casual handicapping purposes it has been decided to change and calculate the Course Handicap off the green tees by adjusting a player’s index using the table applicable to the white tees rather than just using a player’s rounded handicap index.  The previous treatment disadvantaged higher handicap players.

From now on please refer to the table on the back of the noticeboard at the flagpole or pick up a handicap calculator card from the clubhouse and use the White Tee information.

Apologies for any confusion but hopefully this is a more equatable system.

Handicap Information

Under the new system, to view your your handicap information you have to  do so via the Scottish Golf app or website.  This can no longer be done via the Luffness New website or Mobile app.

General Play Scores for Handicap

Under WHS players can now do a general play scores (previously supplementary scores) for handicap purposes at any course, not just a course where they are a member.  One of the ways to record such a score is to use the Scottish Golf App.  Instructions and a video as to how to use the app can be found by following this link.

https://scottishgolf.org/handicapping-homepage/general-play-scores/

Please note you must click on the general play button on the app before you start your round and you must complete the process after the round, before you leave the course.  The system knows you where you are !!!

If your app does not display the general play button, please let the office know and we will take this up with Scottish Golf.

Submitting general play scores will introduce correct data onto  player’s record and will remove any anomalies of the initial index calculation.   At Luffness, general play scores must be done off the Blue, White or even Red tees.  Even if you are using the app please inform the club of your intention to return a score before commencing the round.
