Worldwide Handicapping System – General Play Scores

15th April 2021

A player may complete a card counting for handicap at any course.

To do a general play score the player must:-

Follow the Rules of Golf :- The ball must be holed at every hole unless a score of more than a net double bogey is to be achieved. All holes must be played in the correct order.

Play with at least one other person who can attest to the score – this doesn’t necessarily need to be another club member but has to be someone acceptable to the club where the score is being recorded.

Play on a course with a current Course and Slope Rating – check the appropriate tees to use prior to play.

Procedure

At whichever course the player intends to do a general play score the player must comply with the following :-

Pre-register on the Scottish Golf App or inform your Home Club that you intend to do a general play score.

After the round the score must be submitted by using the Scottish Golf or by returning the details to your home club.

If using the Scottish Golf App.

The player must register on the app before playing

All hole by hole scores must be entered onto the App.  This can be done during or after the round.

Once all correct it must be verified – a signature/ mark entered. The details of the marker – name and phone number – must be entered along with a signature / mark.

The score can then be submitted.

All this must be done before leaving the club or it will be rejected and a penalty score will be applied.
More details of how to use the App can be found on the Scottish Golf Website at

It is not a requirement to use the app – a physical scorecard can be completed and returned to your home club where the details can be entered.

If using the app there is no requirement to take the phone onto the course and enter scores during the round.  The app can be set up prior to the round. The device can then be left in the car or clubhouse and the scores entered into the app after completing the round.  All details must be completed before leaving the course.
